Mountain biking is more than just a sport; it's a community. In Finland, the MTB scene has grown significantly, especially compared to the early 2000s when the primary focus was on a few active cycling clubs organizing annual national-level competitions. Back then, although there were some informal groups and activities outside the official club sphere, the landscape has evolved immensely.
Today, MTB disciplines are more accessible than ever, with high-quality facilities popping up in urban areas. Pump tracks and BMX tracks are becoming popular spots where you can also practice with a dirt-style MTB bike. Beyond the city limits, you'll find various jump spots known as dirts, and a bit further out, extensive trail networks for both electric and traditional mountain bikes. Gravel bikes, designed for unpaved roads, are a common sight on gravel paths and roads, offering versatile cycling experiences on long and varied trips.
Ski resorts have also started investing more in summer activities, transforming into bike parks during the off-season. These parks offer a variety of trails, from steep descents and jumps to rocky and root-filled paths, catering to all kinds of MTB enthusiasts.
Why Join a Club or Community?
If you're interested in mountain biking or cycling off the beaten path, the possibilities are vast. Clubs and specialized communities play a crucial role in guiding enthusiasts in the right direction, whether young or adult. Everyone can find at least one group where they can make friends and enjoy riding together.
Featured Clubs and Communities
Featured: LaPy - Lahden Pyöräilijät ry
Lahden Pyöräilijät, a traditional cycling club, was revitalized primarily by road cyclists about ten years ago and has since grown steadily to around 300 members. The club organizes weekly road rides and group rides for its members, but a significant area of growth has been in junior activities. The cycling school attracts a large number of juniors to Raviska every week, with many of them continuing the sport as an active hobby. The junior program includes the active LaPy XC Juniors group and the Gravity disciplines junior group, which was expanded to include adults last season, now boasting 26 riders.
Enduro and DH riders maintain close connections through race trips and riding events, although there are no regular weekly rides apart from Tuesday training sessions.
Lahden Pyöräilijät is a traditional sports club in both history and activity. Competitions, events, and junior activities are at the core of the club's operations. The club is naturally a member of the Finnish Cycling Federation, allowing members to obtain racing licenses through the club.

Featured: Zombiehauki - Turku MTB Community
Zombiehauki is a Turku-based MTB community that has truly become a family over the years. Most members have known each other since 2013-2015, with a few joining since then. We have a diverse group of personalities, but our shared passion for mountain biking and trips to Sweden have bonded us together like a family.
The Story Behind the Name
The name Zombiehauki originated in 2017 when Lake Littoinen was being cleaned and some of the fish died. They floated to the surface and washed ashore. During a group sauna session, one member jokingly or fearfully said, ## Look, zombie pikes! ## This amused everyone, and our WhatsApp group was renamed Zombiehauki.
Community Members
Our family consists of ten men and two women. One of the women was selected to join us from another town after we competed together in MTB Rally races. MTB Rally is a fantastic way to meet new people and form friendships through a shared hobby.
